Robert Adams

This week's blog is dedicated to landscapes with vast depths of field. Mr. Robert Adams is a photographer that uses depth of field to create a very interesting photograph. He has been photographing American landscapes for almost 50 years. his photos emphasize the beauty of nature while also showing the dominance of man living among nature. He is a very well- known photographer and his work is as well.

I like his use of depth of field. He really allows the viewer to see all the landscape has to offer. The vast lands are quite magnificent and the fact that Adams can capture such a vast area so perfectly is quite magnificent. Though his photographs are in black and white, the use of contrast still helps emphases depth and detail. These landscapes are quite beautiful and I love his work.

Alice Hawkins self portrait

Alice Hawkin is a fashion photographer and filmmaker based in London, UK. Alice's work can be found in LOVE, Vogue, i-D, Harper's Bazaar, InStyle, and Vanity Fair. 

Her work is sexy and intriguing, reaching the core of her subjects in both her commercial and fine art fashion photography endeavors. Her ad campaigns for Diesel, Agent Provocateur, and Topman have been some of her greatest work.

Brian Duffy

Brian Duffy was an English photographer and film producer, best remembered for his fashion and portrait photography of the 1960s and 1970s. In 1955 Duffy began freelancing as a fashion artist for Harper's Bazaar. It was here that he first came into contact with photography. Inspired by the photographic contact sheets he saw passing through the art director's desk he decided to find a job as a photographers assistant. Along with fellow photographers David Bailey and Terence Donovan, he captured, and in many ways helped to create, the "Swinging London" of the 1960s: a culture of high fashion and celebrity chic. Together the "Terrible Three", as they came to be known by the British press, redefined not only the aesthetic of fashion photography but also the place of the photographer within the industry. Socializing with actors, musicians and royalty, together they represented a new breed of photographer and found themselves elevated to celebrity status.

Berta Vincente

I am amazed by this photographer. She is only 18 and her work is amazing. My favorite picture is the second one. I don't know why but I love that photograph. The color is soft and subtle. The lighting is perfect. The colors compliment each other extremely well and everything just comes together perfectly. It's hard to believe she is only 18 years old. She won the 2013 Sony world photography youth competition in the category of portraiture. She definitely deserves a spot in the top 20 young photographers list.

Brooke Shaden

Brooke Shaden is 26. She was born in Lancaster, PA. She grew up near the Amish country.She graduated from Temple with a bachelors in film and English. She began as a self portrait artist and has now grown and attempts to create worlds though her photography which she wishes could exist. Her Photographs are so weird and beautiful all at the same time.

Karrah Kobus

Since I would like to take more Portraits I have been looking at a lot more portrait photographers. Karrah's stood out to me because of the unusual poses. The people in her images look almost supernatural. I can't tell how she did the second picture but that ads to the mystery. The compositions are beautiful and I think that has a lot to do with where the people are place and how they are posed. The way they interact with their environment is different from a lot of the portraits i have been looking at.

Zhang Jingna

I have been interested more in portraits toward the end of the semester. I was hesitant at the beginning. I have taken a few but none compare to this artist. Her portraits are beautiful. The angles are amazing the composition is interesting and you can stare at them for a long time without losing interest. She has even shot for Asia's Next Top Model and she's only 24. I think she is amazing and her work is definitely worth seeing. click the link!

Cara Harman

      Cara Harman is a photographer who currently attends the Art Center College of Design. The images displayed here are from her "Morning Blues" series. When observing the photo above, it appears to have a certain amount of "noise". This would indicate that Cara was shooting with a high ISO that probably ranged from 800-3200. The picture seems to have a good depth of field; meaning an F-stop of 11 or 16 was used. With that in mind, to get decent exposure, Cara would probably use a shutter speed of 1/15 or 1/30 of a second. Depending on the photographer, she could have used a tripod or handheld. 

         The images in Cara Harman's series "Morning Blues" are all photographs of morning landscapes. According to her, she believes that good photography should evoke some kind of emotion within the viewer. When looking through this series, one could get this feeling of bleak melancholy. Others would suggest that the pale blue morning light brings about a sort of quiet calmness that only people, who were awake before the rest of the world, would understand. With this series, Cara Harman could give similar feelings to her viewers.

I was doing a google search for women in photography to write a blog post on and I came across this article about a woman named Editta Sherman. She was a well known celebrity photographer. She just recently passed last month at the age of one hundred and one!!!!! She was born in 1912. So she has been around to see the changes in photography and the growth of cameras over her lifetime. I thought this was an amazing story and i encourage you guys to go read about her and who she got to photograph like famous actors of the 50s.

Alex Prager 

Alex Prager is a self-taught photographer, who was a great fascination with cinematic melodrama in her images. Her most interesting ones to me are called "Face in a Crowd." These photos are largely scaled of many people in a congested area. Blurring the line between fiction and reality, she constructed these sets in order to show the different fears, desires, thoughts, of each person in the photo, and she does a great job of doing so.

This post is about a photographer named Cindy Sherman. Her name was given to me durring my print critique. She takes self portraits but mainly as her dressed up in a costume playing a character. Shes always doing something ordinary like lying down, cooking or cleaning. But ahe turns ordinary things into beautiful photographs. I would go in this direction for my final portfolio but im not sure i want to be infront of the camera that much. Iadmire her work but i just dont think i could pull this off.
