Michael Watts weekly post #15

Charles Ebbets was an american photographer born in Alabama in 1905 and is most well known for is photograph of eleven workers eating lunch atop the construction of Rockefeller Center in New York City.  Before Ebbets achieved success as a photographer he made his trades such as acting, movie making, stunt work, racing, and hunting.  It is thought that leading such a perilous lifestyle helped him to keep the composure needed to capture such flawless images of the workers atop of some of New York's tallest buildings.  I chose to write about Ebbets in this weeks blog post because many of his photos work heavily with scale.  By including the workers in all of his photos of the city, it helps to illustrate the gravity of the position that he was in.  It adds a sense of uneasiness to his images and am interested in exploring that in my final portfolio.
