Jerry Uelsman




          Jerry Uelsman is an famous 20th century American photographer born in the 1930's. His innovate photographic style incorporates surrealism and impressionistic influences to create memorable pieces. He is mainly known for his work in the darkroom, mainly because he doesn't use digital cameras and sticks to traditional equipment. There are few photographers in this day and age don't possess the skill he has in the darkroom. His creative process is very exact and precise each time. 

          Critics love his works, mainly because Uelsman allows for the viewers to interpret his work. There is no clear subject. He composes his work in black and white along with grays and mid-tones. He is also known for his intense contrasts. Uelsman is also known to use multiple focal points. He has received numerous awards including being inducted into the Florida Artist Hall of Fame and the Guggenheim Fellowship. A few pieces of his work can be seen bellow.
