Kellen Clarke- Weekly Artist Post

Troy Goodall

1. The campaign "Free Your Skin" was shot by Troy Goodall for Y&R New Zealand. Troy worked with an animal photographer, Stephan Stewart, and Electric Art to edit the animals to make the beards. Troy shot the models individually at his own place to have control of the coloring and lighting while Stephan photographed the animals. Once finished, Electric Art placed the animals onto the models faces making the final picture look as if the beards had been morphed into animals.

2. The concept was from the agency requesting Troy Goodall's help. This campaign is also known as "No Shave November". The reasoning behind the animals comes from the idea animals and beards have same qualities and personalities. For example: cuddly, have their own self and can adapt. The focus wasn't just on beards, but more so hipster beards. This is because hipster beards are like lumberjacks and they can be big and crazy.

3. My response to Troy Goodall's work for the Y&R is that this is different and creative. I understand why the the agency chose animals and beards for this project. Most people jus grow the beard and promote "No Shave November", putting a new spin on it is creative. Using hipster beards to match with the animals was a specific choice for this project. Those beards are different and lying a photographed and edited animal on top makes the picture funny and different. I also noticed that each man is wearing a certain look to match the animal and the color scheme.
