Robert Voltaire is a California born, self-taught photographer. He is an international fashion photographer is mostly known for his fashion photography, beauty photography and fine art body portraits of stunning models appearing in magazine editorials worldwide including: Vanity Fair, Cosmopolitan, Max and Playboy. In 2008 Mr. Voltaire was named as a master of black and white photography by German Max Magazine.
His website has a lot of great tips on how to become a professional photographer. I really like his nude photography. He uses the models as art to create amazing photographs.

Jaroslav Wieczorkiewicz

          This might be my favorite blog post so far for the semester. Jaroslav Wieczorkiewicz is a London based photographer, originally born in Poland. He specializes in conceptual photography. Recently, one of my friends posted a link to Jaroslav's newest project, his Pin-Up Milk Project. For this project, Jaroslav would have someone pour milk on the models and he would take the picture. He would have them do this continuously until he's done about 200 shots per model. Then he edits the pictures together to form the clothing on the models. Over 200 frames are used to complete each image! I find this extremely impressive. The way he edits his pictures is perfect and he makes the models look as if they were wearing clothes the whole time. His work has been used for advertising campaigns in both Europe and the USA.

Corinne Day

This is one of the names we were given in class last week. I think we were discussing portraits. When I looked her up on google I found this site. The first thing I did was look through her Photos. Then I realized there was a short biography about her on the home page. She has very strong pictures but she also has an interesting story and seems to be a very strong person.

She was diagnosed with a stage 2 brain tumor. She had surgery and was given about 8 years to live. She wasn't expected to live past 2004. But she outlived her prognosis by 6 years and ended up passing in 2010.

She was a British photographer born in 1965. Day was self taught and had a major impact on fashion image making.Her work has been exhibited in The National Portrait Gallery. 

Corinne Day seems like the go-to person for wanting to study portrait making. I never took a portrait but I am interested in making one this week of a few friends and coworkers. I will be sure to reference her photos on the website to get some idea and inspiration.

Sally Mann

     Sally Mann is a photographer who was born and currently lives in our own state of Virginia. She has received many rewards and grants, and her art work is represented in some galleries in New York. Sally Mann's photography are mostly of black and white images and they are shown in a darker, grungier style. Her choice to have them in these set styles, not only gives her own artwork personality, it also allows the viewer to better understand the statements she may be giving through her artwork.

     While looking through her images, I noticed in some of her shots that portray a more sexual, gender based setting, she deprives the viewer of what they would fully see if she would have chosen to do a different composition. This reminded me of one of my images I had for our most recent fear project, and the decision to cut out some of the nudity to give the viewer a more sense of desire, and maybe more questioning on that certain image. So, looking through her pieces it gave me some ideas for maybe how I could execute some compostions differently. The images I chose to include in my blog are just some of the photos that Mann deprives the viewer of a fuller view.

Jo-Ann Callis

Born in the 1940s in Southern California, Jo Ann Callis began making her remarkable contributions to the photographic realm in the late 1970s; she has a peculiar view of the world, and of how photos can and should be taken. Her website hosts over ten separate categories of pictures taken; some of them are similar, and others are vastly different, and yet they all display skillful technique. My favorite collection was called Ballast and showcases the art of objects and models in motion: a yanked tablecloth here, a man doing push-ups there. The light and shadows are interesting to see, but the phantom colors she creates by capturing these various hasty movements could never be captured in the same way if they'd just been sitting pretty.

Nagano Toyokazu

       Nagano Toyokazu is a japanese photographer. He recently became famous for photos of his daughter Kanna. Each and every frame usually has little Kanna, as the center focus, along with costumes and props. When looking at the image above, one might say that this is slightly over exposed. The aperture was probably shot at F16 with a shutter speed of 1/15th of a second. Based off the probable shutter speed, one can assume that Nagano is using a tripod.

           When looking through this selection, one might say that these images display a close relationship between father and daughter.  A powerful statement is made by the artist throughout the collection.  The vibrancy of youth and power of imagination is shown through the daughters centered position and focus.  The background is consistent in its location with seasonal changes and has a looming quality. The purpose of this bleak background is to represent the world as being far away and distant not meant for a child.

Laurent Chehere

This week's blog post is all about the talented Laurent Chehere, a French photographer with a magnificent imagination. He likes a fields of photography and enjoys exploring cities, the suburbs, and the country and bringing a world of wonder to the viewer's eye. His "Flying Houses" collection are not only beautiful, creative, and magnificent photographs, but also are combinations of explorations of poor neighborhoods of Paris. 

I really enjoy Chehere's work and all that he presents in his photographs. Not only are they bizarre and dream- like, but they are quite colorful and well composed. I like the many series he has in his portfolio(s). His website is not only creatively interesting, but also somewhat cultural, you can even read it all in French if you'd like. His use of imagination and skill really create quite lovely master pieces. Bravo monsieur, bravo!

Diana Arbus

This week I have decided to dedicated to Diana Arbus. Diana is known for being one of the most well known 20th century photographers and her unusual spooky photos. She was born in New York City on March 14, 1923. Her husband Allan Arbus got her interested in photography and taking pictures. She particularly enjoying taking photographs of people around downtown New York City.  

Many of her works were included in fashion magazines such as Vogue and Esquire. She even had collections of her photography in the NYC Museum of Modern Art. After ending her marriage with her husband, she struggled with issues such as depression and anxiety. She committed suicide in her apartment on July 26, 1971. The 2006 movie 'Fur' starring Nicole Kidman was based on her life. Below are a few pictures I enjoyed.

Mary Gueller has been awarded the prestigious honor of being one ofthe Top Ten Photographers in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Professional Photographers recently held their annual convention in Madison, Wisconsin. Through print competition this award is presented to the top ten cumulative print case scores. Three of Mary's prints were also accepted into the Wisconsin Elite Collection,images in this collection are again awarded by print score during print judging. The print titled "Raised on a Solid Foundation" was also awarded a special "Outstanding Artistic Quality" award. These prints will be entered into the Professional Photographers of America print competition this coming summer. Mary founded her photography business in 1980 with her husband, Steve. Their son, Ryan joined their business in 2003.

Thomas Ruff

Thomas Ruff was born in 1958 in Zell am Harmersbach in the Black Forest, Germany. His first touch of photography was in 1974 after his first introduction class for photography. He has many different series of photographs, dealing with the night sky, nudes and Zycles. Which are 3D renderings of mathematical curves that Ruff saw in an ancient book of electromagnetism.
