Brittany Emery - Weekly Post 10/06/13

Inspired by the world of post-World War II Japan, Hosoe has produced photographs of the "delightfully macabre" variety; as one who enjoys this variety when presented well, I very much appreciated the subtle and bizarre nuances of Hosoe's work. He focuses greatly on the exploration of death and sexuality (which have a lot in common, if you look closely); while he has a fixation on male bodies and male forms, women do make appearances. His use of primarily black and white photography lend an eerie vibe to his work, like watching the reruns of an old horror movie.
