Joseph Colon weekly post 6

1. Thomas Kiefer is an Arizona base photographer who used to work as a janitor at the U.S. customer border. As a janitor he obviously had to clean up a lot of things. When he would take the trash out he would find things that were seized by customs agents from people trying to cross into the U.S. border. Thomas Kiefer would arrange the things he found into intricate, beautiful arrangements, and photograph them close up, and a grid formation.

2. Thomas was mesmerized by the sheer volume of stuff that was seized by the agents. Many of which seemed to have very significant value to the ones who brought them over. Thomas said it was interesting to him, because these are the things that many people felt were the most important to them. Such as combs, soap, food, and rosary beads. Thomas said that he didn't want to bring any political concerns into the meaning of these photos but he did want people to just feel empathy for the people who had emotional connection to these items that we take for granted everyday.

3. These images speak to me a lot. These small things that we take for granted everyday such as soap, spoons and forks, clothes, and every other day essentials can mean the world to someone else. Its sad to think that these simple items, are simply what people cherish the most, and almost the only things that they have, and hold dear to them.
