Kweku Asafu-Adjaye Weekly Post - Michael Ray
Michael Ray
Another type of photography you don’t see spoken about very much is food photography. Food photography is done by shooting creative still-lives of food. In many commercials you see with a very juicy looking burger, That burger was modified with toothpicks and water spritzer spray to make it look very appetizing.
A man named Michael Ray does this very thing for his endeavors. He is seated in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in its booming food district where he has his studio. In it he was a very large area which includes: A fully functioning kitchen, refrigeration space and a very large shooting area allowing him to get all angles for his work. He uses a Nikon DSLR for his location shooting and an Arca Swiss View camera for his studio shoots.
In many of his photos including the first one, he plays on food shape, where he looks and experiments with food in a shape we are not traditional custom to but kids would love to see. He plays on color space such as the Easter egg photo as well as flowing shoots as i call it where he photographs wine or water in the moment to get a thirsty effect.
