Petros chooses to shoot at night and use the flash. He uses digital format, most likely. Color is used in his photographs, sometimes contrasting in scheme. Because of the flash, his photographs are high contrast. Focal points of the compositions appear to lie on the thirds line, whether that focus be the edge of the subject, brighter illuminated portion of the subject, or shift in texture. The depth of field appears shallower due to the flash and the stark black background it creates.
Koublis' work focuses much on texture and color. It gives an alternative approach to nature photography. Most nature photos are taken in daylight - typically at sunrise or sunset - yet he takes his images at night. He maybe wants to bring focus to the smaller details or present nature in a manner that is different than how we are used to viewing it. Petros takes our eyes away from the vast and beautiful landscapes and instead hones in on specific flora - even sometimes in small, close-up segments. His images lessen the natural light (moon light) in his nature photographs and replace it with artificial flash. He is only able to so this at night, as he does. Koublis may choose to shoot at night for the purpose of total manipulation of his light source - intending maybe to create an interesting juxtaposition between natural and artificial.
I find his photographs interesting in approach. I really enjoy the textures included in his work and some are meditative in nature for me.
