1. Julian Walter focuses on using humans a large subject for his work as well as including the surrounding environment. He focuses in on activities that humans are often engaging in during their free time. He is a traveling photographer and it seems that he tends to use his current environment as his subject choice, whether it be watching a friend climb a rock wall, watching people race bikes, or taking a photo of twins underwater in a pool. A lot of his subject matter includes landscapes, humans and/or animals in motion, and also, the movement of water, other natural processes. Lastly, Julian Walter focuses largely on the lighting based on each specific situation.
2. Julian chooses to use repetition as common theme in his work. For example, the first photo is a picture of two twins underwater. The second is someone's chalk covered hands as they are about to begin rock climbing, and the third features two people racing bikes on a track. He does this purposely as he also creates other photos with single subjects. For example, Julian could have made the hands in the 2nd photo match up but it looks like he chose to capture both hands featured almost separately and wanted to emphasize the movement that was being captured. This theme also seems present in the pictures of the twins underwater and the people racing bikes. He could have chose to make each subject at the same angle, very pattern-like but I think he makes it more intriguing with the differences and similarities between his subjects.
3. I feel that Julian likes to focus on the current activities and events going on around him. I think he also uses that to his advantage when traveling. At first, I thought the first photo of the twins underwater was a little sad, dark, and depressing but as you see his other photos and realize his use of lighting, this seems more like he is documenting what is going on around him. When I first saw the second photo, it brought back memories from when I used to take gymnastics. I remembered what it felt like to have the chalk on your hands before getting ready to enjoy one of your hobbies such as rock climbing, racing, swimming, and hiking that he featured in some of his other work. I found his photos very exciting and enticing as I felt encouraged to travel new places to enjoy the beautiful scenes that are already existing in life.
