1) Danny Lyon used an Exa single-lens reflex for these black and white pictures. Though there is a central focus in each picture, it also wants you to focus on the area and the surroundings around the central focus. though the pictures are still, there is a sense of movement in each picture.
2) Each photo has its own personality and tone of the daily lives of the people in them. The top photo shows the lighter, more live free aspect. While the second one shows the struggles of loss and darker side of that life. The last one, however, Shows a sense of unity and singularity, in the fact that it is one man in the mirror but behind that one man is a brotherhood of people just like him.
3) I have mixed feelings looking through all his photos but cant help but feel a bit of envy toward the experience that he had and the bikers had. I wouldn't say i want to be part of a biker gang, but the feeling of a strong brotherhood behind you at all times. I feel like if it would have been in color it would have lose a huge impact. The dark colors they are wearing placed along a light backdrop really exposes a new meaning behind these photos, that its all black and white until you experience it.
