Richard Finkelstein creatures miniature figures and photographs them in life like scenes. At first glance you get the illusion that the photographs of are real scenes captured, but if you look closely you can see that it is a made up scene. It is said that Finkelstein's work is inspired by Edward Hopper's paintings and from Alfred Hitchcock's films.
He has a great way of giving the illusion of realism in his photos with incorporating actual films into the pictures. It's as if you're actually at the movies. Just based off of the photos I can tell that Finkelstein spends a lot of time creating the picture rather than just taking the photo itself. The props he uses are pretty nice and well made. The certain types of lighting he uses within the sets are quite nice at setting the scenes based on where he has put them.
I believe that Finkelstein is trying to get the audiences attention towards events that have happened in this life-time. Showing us composition still lives to highlight the details of the shadows and lighting within the scenes. I love the outcome of what his photos turn out to be, well lit photos with great compositions.
