Kerry Goodman Post#14

Sean Lotman

1. Born in Los Angeles, California, Sean Lotman is a p[photographer who specializes in over saturated photography. Being fascinated with the Japanese culture, he moved to Kyoto Japan and captures everyday life of Japan and it's citizens. Lotman seems to find his artistic focus on a centralized subject that is is hinted with a very small amount of white, but makes the backgrounds highly saturated hues.

2. Lotman looks at the world around him differently than most. Instead of seeing whats there, he imagines the image in his head and the colors that come with the situation. For example, the picture of the Buddhist monk and the background of saturated blues and magenta could symbolize the spiritual balance that monks strive to achieve. He manipulates the background to suit the subjects needs and that is completely fascinating!

3. I find Lotman's style very abstract but, still very intuitive. Most photographers would be ok with just having a pretty background and a interesting subject, but Loftman pushes those boundaries into interesting realms of art. I find Loftman's photographs interesting with a strong focus on what the photo means and not just the form of the photo itself.
