Zanele Muholi

1. Zanele Muholi is a South African photographer and activist. A mostly self taught artist and a decorated award winner for her photographs, she is known for her work in bringing to light the importance of homosexual acceptance. With most of her art revolving around the beauty of African models and the need for equality in romantic relationships in the African community.
2. Muholi does not shy away from controversial conversations in her art work. Her use of lighting and shadows show great use of bring forth intense color contrasts in her photographs. Whether each image is a nude model or a clothed one they all tend to the theme of equality, no matter what your views or beliefs are. Transgender, lesbian, gay, and even racial equality are all topics she tends to conversate with her audience.
3. Muholi brings to view that homosexuality and being different isn't an ugly thing that most intolerant individuals believe it to be. Her art pulls at the hearts of her audience to show them that these different lifestyles shouldn't be shunned, but celebrated. They and every human being is beautiful in all walks of life. Even if they walk different that you they still deserve to be treated with equality and respect.
