She won 1st place in the Paris Prix Virginia in 2014 and most recently the Sony Photography award.
In the photos above Jesus, Buddha, and Muhammed the Prophet are all placed in contemporary scenes. Goldstein challenges the viewer to analyze ancient ethics, values and icons in a modern world setting. The photos are all under exposed and taken in landscape format. Goldstein uses analog transparency on plexiglass with light panels when displaying this series.
I usually don't like pictures that are so dark but I think it fits well with her intentions. The photos above almost seem painted. The only thing i don't like is the brightness around Buddha and Muhammed's hand it seems very photoshopped. I really liked this series because it caused me to really think. Her appropriation of The Last Supper is brilliant! I think someone like my mom who is super religious would not appreciate a series like this. Her dollhouse series is pretty great too! Goldstein has been a professional photographer for twenty years and continuously seeks to inspire in depth insight to the human condition.
