Lightning Fields

 Hiroshi Sugimoto uses a Van De Graaff 400,000-volt generator to apply an electrical charge directly to the film. Each photograph results in a unique effect produced by the lightning.
 
 Hiroshi's intent is to capture the unique and abstract effects that electricity on the film has. Each one is going to be different than the other, which allows for a wide variety of results. Often the results are a "treeing" effect which I find really amazing.
  
I thought that these were appropriate and could relate to how our dark room images have been turning out. From far away, these photos look like negatives of landscapes with trees or rivers. I love that Hiroshi had the idea to apply electricity to film. I'm always trying to think of other ways to capture a photo so seeing Hiroshi's work
