Chhandak Pradhan is a journalist and photographer that has made many wonderful portraits. Often his subjects are show in dramatic lighting, with a very shallow depth of field, or submersed in a very particular scene/setting. All of this adds a serious nature or vibe to his photos.
I chose to focus primarily on his portrait photography since that is what we are about to start working on in class. He seems to focus on a subject either giving us the feeling that it is not about anything material at all, or that the material things surrounding the subject are very much a part or focus. There is very little in between. This could be to show the difference between what a person truly is or looking deeper into their feelings and meanings versus what their material possessions or outward appearance portrays of them.
