Weekly Post

Hiroshi Sugimoto is a Japanese photographer who was born in Japan and graduated from Saint Pauls University in Tokyo and also from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles.  He is known as one of the most prized contemporary artists from Asia.  He is based in both cities of New York and Japan.

The photos displayed are from a series titled Chamber of Horrors.  The images basically display images of death in which people are not comfortable looking at such as the electric chair or the women laying dead in a bathtub as a man looks over her.  These images are quite disturbing to look at and the fact that they are black and white makes the image appear even more disturbing.  These photos remind me of moments when I take the time to remember horrible memories within the distant past and allow me to ponder on how horrible the world can really be or how people in society die on a daily basis.  We fail to accept the fact that things like this can actually happen until we are exposed images like these.
