1) David Barry uses shallow and deep depths of field. He also uses different light sources in his works. In most of his pictures, it looks like he is using a TV as his light source in most of his photos. He focuses on making portraits but also portraying a theme behind the portraits. David uses very dark lit situations and backgrounds. He has to be adding a light source or using something such as a TV for his photos to come out this light while still being in a dark lit room.
2) David Barry uses some repeating themes in his works, whether they are portraits or classified as works. For instance, in photo 1, he may be trying to portray that the man feels stuck or trapped as he has taped up his face. In photo 2, David may be trying to portray that the woman/man is struggling or straining as his or her toes are crunched up and that is the main focus of the photo. Lastly, in the 3rd photo, David places what looks like a balloon in front of the young girls face. This could possibly imply that she is trapped in her own bubble as she is watching TV and that young children/teens are becoming trapped in this world created by TV.
3) David Barry really impressed me with the lighting he was able to create in his photos. I know from my own experience getting well lit portraits in not very well lit rooms was very difficult and I had to either add a light source or manually adjust almost every setting to avoid using a flash which would overexpose the photograph. I like that his portraits are similar to the portraits we are trying to achieve in our current project. He has created real life portraits with emotions and feelings being shown while also using different angles and adding light sources as well as adding other objects such as the balloon or the tape to his photos. I really enjoyed looking through his works and would love to know what he was using to shoot these.
