Parker Austin Weekly Artist Post 13

August Sanders

1) Sanders was a German photographer who used a  9x12 cm Voigtlander, with a 135mm or 150mm lens. The black and white is due to the time the photos were taken in the late 1800 early 1900s. His photos were taken all from a few feet back and have the subject framed to meet the middle each time.
2) these photos are that of a collection on blue collar life and workers. He seemed to be interested on the lives and well being of those struggling to keep happy. The photos really captured a gloomy feeling in them that can only be seen by the photographer at the time and experienced by the viewers.
3) Photos like these usually seem to bore me but these ones keep my attention. I feel as if im with the people in these pictures. i dont think about the camera or film i think about the area around them, the sounds and smells and the pure feeling of it all.
