Mayteana Colon's weelky post 12

Roger Minick

1) Minick uses a flask mounted medium-format camera. He focuses on catching the vibrant colors of his scenes and how they interact with the subjects involved. His focal range appears to change showing that at some points he's a couple feet from his subjects and others he is very far away. He utilizes the natural lines of the objects around him to create a dynamic and eye-catching image.

2) In the first image Minick has captured an image of the arch with a lone subject standing underneath it. The arch is place off set to the the right of the image allowing the viewers eye to follow it off the page and giving the image direction. The second image is of a man observing a city. the curves of the ground and the fence in front of him create great contrast with the sharp lines of the building in the background. While the vibrant colors of the scenes balance well with the monotone nature of the mans clothing. The last image appears to be two cars coming out of the grown as if they were sprouting up. This provides an interesting concept given that they are in the desert and virtually nothing grows there. The vibrant colors of the cars contrast greatly with the solid color of the ground and the simplistic colors of the subjects clothing.

3) I chose these images because of Minick's use of color, contrast and balance. His images draw the eye and are very captivating. I find myself looking at the last image more than anything. I find his work interesting and dynamic, I strive to encompass this range of color and vibrancy in my own images.
