Dorothee Deiss
Dorothee Deiss captures photos of people doing normal activities. She considers the lighting and color contrast of each photo carefully. She uses a low ISO to get high quality and opens or closes the aperture to get the depth of field needed for each frame. In these photos, each of the main subjects are looking up towards the sky or at a object. I think she took the time to edit the contrast and exposure of the image through PS to get the main subjects of each photo to pop out a little bit more.
I think by choosing to have each of her subjects looking up, she creates a feeling of hope. Even in bad situations like the image of the guy laying on the side of the road. I believe she intended to portray the joy and peace people have doing simple things. She carefully framed each photo so that the background corresponds to the action of the subject. For example, the second photo of the couple on the beach. The polls were her way of putting them in the center, making them the main focus. The angle she chose to use and where she stood to take this makes the photo well balanced and less chaotic.
I like all of her work. She makes simple choices that effects the overall photo. For example, in the third photo, the corner of the wall is mimicked by the lines on the ground that comes to a point. The red line in the same photo is parallel to the line where the pavement and grass meet. I also like how she chose to lay the guy down mimicking the horizon in the first image instead of having him do something else.
