Holli Turner - Weekly Artist Post

These photographs appear to be high quality and shot with a low ISO perhaps ISO 100 or 200 or lower.  The artist has a deep depth of field, which would be a more closed aperture, or F11 maybe even F16.  The images appear to be made using the short lens or zoomed out from the subject.

The artist wanted to the environment in which his mother a compulsive hoarder exposed him to.  He reached into an emotional part of himself and shared it with the viewer.  He has said that by doing this project and revisiting this house it was able to make him heal and forgive his mother for being raised in such conditions.

The first thing that came to mind while viewing these photos is how misplaced the children looked.  I wanted to lift them from the photographs because I didn’t want them to be there.  It looked like such a bad place to be.  I think that the contrast of how dirty and disheveled everything in the room was in comparison to how clean and well kept the children appeared to be was very well executed as well.  There is an excellent use of light and color in these photographs as well that can be appreciated.
