Bri Carpenter - Weekly Blog Post 1.2

Marc Riboud

1)  Riboud works in black and white and he shows an ability to capture the decisive moment through powerful compositions.  I couldn't find for sure what camera he uses, just that his first camera was a Vest Pocket Kodak camera.

2)  The first image was taken in 1967 and was shot in D.C. where anti-war activists were gathered in front of the Pentagon to protest the Vietnam war.  The young girl with the flower was trying to communicate with the solders.  The second image was taken in Paris in 1953 and shows a man who is painting the Eiffel Tower.  His pose is like a dancer and the industrial structure creates a frame around him, making the photo very visually appealing.  The third image was taken in India in 1956.  The people had just finished bathing in the Ganges River.

3)  I really love Riboud's photos because his sense of composition is amazing.  I think he has a real talent for the decisive moment.  You can tell that Bresson was a big influence for him.  I love the juxtaposition between the soldiers and the young girl in the first photo.  These photos seem to have captured the height of a delicate moment in time.
