1) In the 1960's Dennis Hopper used his 35mm Nikon camera to shoot around 10,000 images, shooting in only natural light. Hopper never cropped his images and he shot with high-speed black and white film.
2) Hopper made portraits of fellow actors, hippies, passersby, and protesters. Hopper was also an actor but he was serious about his photography and was always concerned with the contemporary art scene in Los Angeles. His photography was an outlet for him after he was exiled from Hollywood. Through photography he found a place where he could be himself, free from limitations of the Hollywood system.
3) Hopper's images have beautiful compositions. These portraits feel intimate like the subjects are letting us into their world for a moment. I like these images because they feel almost like a personal diary.
