Diana Macaraeg - Weekly Post 2

Seth Lower

  1. Seth Lower's technique was to use the natural light facing towards the subjects face. All of his subjects for his work The Sun Shone Glaring, he had placed them all centered in the frame. He framed buildings and environments in the center, also only using natural light.
  2. The Sun Shone Glaring is a photo book that explores Seth Lower's observation of Los Angeles after he moved into the city in 2010. His technique of placing aspiring actors facing towards harsh lighting helped showcase the high hopes for the aspiring actors, but the shadows behind them deepened the chances of their dreams actually to coming true.
  3. Seth Lower's approach were uncommon in the photography scene, putting light on a subjects fact rather than backlighting, and completely centering a subject. His unorthodox approach did heavily support his theme for the cliche of Los Angeles being a place of high hopes and place of creating a new identity. Lower's style shows that sometimes breaking rules or pushing boundaries isn't always a bad idea.
