Diana Macaraeg - Weekly Post 1.2

Michael Wolf

  • Michael Wolf had created a series called A Series of Unfortunate Events, that showed a Google street view of various calamities. Wolf would scavenge on Google street view in different parts of the world searching for oddities or personal acts presented publicly in a misfortunate timing by the Google vehicle. He would prop his camera onto his tripod, pick a specific cropping, and take a picture of the picture on his computer.
  • Michael Wolf's photos were captured to engage an audience to question the story behind the     misfortune. It's can be themed as a decisive moment, where this Google vehicle captured a         moment that would not be captured again. Michael Wolf addresses the cliche of at the wrong     place, at the right time.
  • His entire series uncovers that in today's society, that we are being watched. We are being recorded without our own will, whether it's a situation that we want to unveil to the world or not. I have never seen this approach towards photography where a photographer would take a picture of another picture on a screen, but it shows a different sides to this medium.
