Brittany Emery - Weekly Post 10/14/2013

Born in Conneticut in 1951, diCorcia has pursued photography his entire life, and has the unique ability to lend drama and interest to undramatic and uninteresting everyday life. A sense of humor, flavored with candor and a touch of the macabre, runs through all of his work. I particularly found interest in his collection called "Hustlers", where he would photograph the typical day and night lives of male prostitutes living in Los Angeles, California; while there was some humor to be found, I noticed a common thread of... somehow... loneliness. And they make you ask questions. Are they waiting for someone, or are they recovering? Are they eager or anxious? Are they in this lifestyle by necessity or by choice? Do they enjoy what they do? Do they ever wish they could quit?
