Photographer
Anastasia Taylor-Lind uses a Bronica SqAi for slower process
filming. She normally uses a medium
format Bronica single lens reflex camera.
This camera is good for portraits, landscapes, and getting a film look
in photography. Taylor-Lind’s camera has
a 6x6 cm 120 roll film.

Taylor-Lind
prefers this kind of camera because of her process in photography. She “see(s) the world square, not
rectangular” (Taylor-Lind). The frame of the Bronica SqAi is in the shape
of her preference. She shoots at a
waist-level viewfinder, this way she doesn’t cover her face or get in the way
of the picture and allows her to get in better contact with her subject
matter. The camera itself is very
old-fashioned with the process of the handheld light meter. On more up to date cameras, there are
internal light meters. Taylor-Lind must take her time taking her photos because
she must manually correct all her adjustments and lighting to take a decent
picture.

I
enjoy some of Taylor-Lind’s photos. My
favorites are her portraits. They are so
simple, yet they capture a lot of detail.
Her portraits have a history or a narrative to them which I think is
gravitating to the viewer because I am looking at her pictures wondering
who these people are and what they are doing or where they may be or even what
time period the picture was taken in.
