In
her project The Canaries Jensen
realizes how life progress and knows that it is harder to obtain individuality
due to our chaotic sense of modernity.
Her pictures are filled with intensity and alienation. Her photograph renders those who suffer from
the grievous sensitivity to a wide array of chemicals.
Jensen
photographed people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), which produces
extreme reactions to commonplace concentration of chemicals. Which can be found in items such as pencils,
vitamins, carpet, etc. Initially, those
people are deemed “isolated” because of their sensitive lifestyle, but Jensen
does highlight their disorder through photography.
I
personally don’t like Jensen’s approach to The
Canaries. Some of his pictures are
really good but the overall purpose of this project is hard to comprehend. Although I feel his approach to this project
was right, his execution is questionable.
