1) Cedric Nunn’s images are of a military battle that took
place at Cuito Cuanavale in the 80s. The images are a result of his interest in
the impact that this area has politically. The lives that people lead as a
result of the battle is a simple, yet rougged life. He chooses to photograph realities that he
thinks are being ignored by mainstream.
2) Each of the images show a piece of the life that these
people live. The first image of the
people walking down the hill with huge baskets shows how hard these people
work. There’s bright reds in the clothing that pop out and demand your attention.
Especially, with the lady in the middle who looks very determined. In the
second image, shows remnants of bullet shells scattered on the ground. It’s a
reminder to the past struggles of a war. The last image, shows the side of a
building that at one point was probably painted all red. Now, the red is
flaking of at the bottom. There also appears to be what might be used as a
walking stick on the right edge of the image; which leads your eye up to the
wiring which in turn points you to the window in a continuous loop.
3) Nunn attempts to show aspects of the war that in turn has
influenced how the people as a society live. There’s a major difference as to
how the wealthy and poor in the region live. The hardships that the poor go
through versus how the wealthy live don’t appear to change anytime soon.
