Tim Hetherington was an American British photojournalist who was well known for his photo documentary for various investigations on the political upheaval and its effect on daily life. He spent the first decade of his career working in West Africa, documenting in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria. In 2008 he was sent to Afghanistan for another assignment, and these are some of his photos.

The images above are from his trip to Kunar Province, Afghanistan. A lot of his picture consists of sleeping soldiers (unsure if they were posed or not). At first I interpreted a sense of peace, but then I felt empathy.  He captures some of the emotions of what its like to be a soldier, the exhaustion, the pain, but the joys of brotherhood.

I like the idea of being able to capture an emotion in all of my art. When I’m drawing, it’s very difficult to be able to express how I feel into the piece. To have the ability to capture the various human emotions in any artwork is a huge goal of mine.
