Monica Turley- Weekly Post #1 (part 1)

ShaunKardinal

Shaun Kardinal is an artist located in Seattle, WA. He is a well-rounded artist who enjoys creating art with photography, graphics, tapestry, sculpture, and music. In his bio, he writes that he is constantly inspired by, frustrated with, raving about, or crushed by the work that surrounds him and he cannot get enough of it. Reading this challenges me to submerse myself and open my eyes to the work around me. It does not take more time to see what you're looking at daily, it just takes effort.

In this series of pictures, Kardinal took found images via Facebook, Instagram, and googled images of birds in flight. He manipulated the pictures and created collages placing the birds in unusual formation. Although Kardinal chose organic shapes that we see in nature, it is not natural to see these birds in this type of formation. I love how this almost seems like something we would see anyway when we look up at the sky, but his arrangement of the birds makes us stop, and stare. He then chose to display these photographs digitally via Instagram. He shared a series of pictures every ten minutes over a period of two hours.
