Olivia Smith Weekly Post 1.1

Alec Soth, pronounced like both,  is a photographer that focuses mainly on Western American photography. He is also involved in Magnum photo agency. When he photographs he typically uses an 8X10 camera and has taken on the folk vibe in his images.

Soth also is very passionate about expressing and raising awareness with different political events. He takes peoples background stories and includes it into his images through their poses, facial expressions, and props. Others would describe his artwork as "profoundly contemporary."

I like the idea that Soth captures people in their natural habitat. He gets to know these strangers and then incorporates what they are doing in the moment. I want to “steal” his idea of getting to know random strangers and then capturing them and highlighting their emotions in the images.
