Karla Mann is a local Virginia Beach based painter who is also a photographer and teaches drawing and painting at the Virginia Beach Museum for Contemporary Art.  Karla specializes in wildlife paintings and Southwestern Art.  She uses a Canon 6D to capture her subjects in the wild and then uses Photoshop to compose her pictures for painting, often modifying the image to enhance the visual effect.  Karla received her BFA in Studio Art from ODU graduating Suma Cum Laude.

I have been taking color pencil drawing from Karla for two years and she is my inspiration for wanting to learn Digital Photography.  Karla’s attention to detail and ability to compose her work make her paintings stand out.  To get the level of detail that she does Karla uses the smallest brush she can buy and then cuts off half of the bristles.  Her photographs of wildlife give one the feeling of being in the wild with her.  For me photography is a way to capture the beauty in the world and share it with others.  Karla does this both through her painting and her photography.
