1) Kirsty Mackay photos have a shallow depth of field to ensure that her subjects have the spotlight. This shallow depth of field is achieved by opening ope the aperture. I assume that in order to get a good exposure, Mackay used a high shutter speed. This would also limit camera shake and will allow her to take still shots of the girls. In addition, there are no grains visible in the photos, which would result from using a low ISO.
2) In Mackay's series, Pink, she addresses the pink washing of little girl's merchandise and clothes. She has the girls adorn the color pink in some manner, while they are placed in neutral colored environments. This allows for the color pink to be the main focal point.
3) I think that this series speaks volumes. I agree that it seems as though the color pink is being forced upon girls, which enforces the gender binary at a young age. Girls and boys should be allowed to like whatever color they please. I am glad that more people like Kirsty Mackay are using their voice or artwork to speak out about this issue.
