Dawit N. M.
1.) Dawit N. M.'s uses both color and black and white photography to aid the theme, or the story he wants to convey in his pictures. In the third picture, he made sure this photo was symmetrical, and that it was very dark. While in the first, the picture isn't symmetrical, but it does have a vantage point, like all three photos do. This leads the viewer's eye where Dawit wants them to look at.
2.) There are two themes that can be exerted from these photos, and the color of the photo is a huge factor. The black and white photos seem to be dark, and mysterious, as most people are as they live there life not knowing what will happen next. All they have is God with them as they go on their path. The color one suggests not a theme, but a showcase of the beauty found at an Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
3.) His technique really helped with the story and the theme he is trying to portray. With his use of balance, light, and color Dawit gives the viewer an image, and that image leads that viewer to a roller coaster of emotions. For example, the last picture at first glance suggests that the church is a dark place, but the door can be a metaphor for life, and the scarfs around the women's head, which is white, is God's presence. Dawit gives the viewer freedom.
