Danny Lyon
"The Bikeriders"
1968

Danny Lyon uses the technique of framing in a very interesting way. Normally the focal point of a picture is in a more direct area, but Lyon chooses to off-set it.  Lyon also does not seem to use motion to help portray his ideas.  Rather, he stop motion all together, creating very still pictures, despite the fact that the bikes and subjects are in motion.  Creating such still, clear images in the midst of the fast-paced lifestyle of bikers is a striking idea.
Danny Lyon is trying to show all sides of the bikers lifestyle in "The Bikeriders". He does this by showing them on their bikes, but also goes as far as to show an image of a funeral, in order to show how these men were apparent in every aspect of each others lives.  Lyon also shot in black and white, although this was the readily available film in that time, it makes the pictures more personal and more cohesive than they would have been if they were in color.
I really enjoy Lyons work, it is interesting to see how he decided to portray the bikers' lives. Furthermore, Lyon's way of framing his photographs is really interesting. I like how it gives the viewers the ability to make up the stories for themselves.
