Joshua Greggs Weekly Post 3

Joshua Greggs
Weekly post #3
Dorothea Lange

1. After looking at Dorothea's images, her technical choices are more towards the dramatic side, to show her passion for imagery. The black and white photos cause an even stronger sensation with the views she wants to present. Her images capture a surrounding, from a near view, to maybe a medium shot, when it comes to telling her stories of people. She also captures images of both people looking towards the camera, and away from the camera, each shot still giving off its dramatic cues.

2. I presume Dorothea wanted to capture the harder times of the depression-era. She enjoyed showing the painful ways people endured life, if only to show and influence those who had noticed the effects of a harsh world at the time. Her photos were shot in a "documentary" form, influencing people through silent stories. She humanized the effects of the time, giving off a certain feeling of power that could be sensed inside of its viewers, that there is hope for change.

3. Personally, her effect on me shows strength through weaknesses. She captures subtle moments to increase the desire of telling an untold story. She captures the harsh and the dirty parts of her world. In hopes that it may inspire anew. Her dramatic pictures give me a sense of the darker side of the depression. Her passion and heart are what draw me to her images.
