Aimee Bruce Weekly Post #3 9/5/13

Jack Long has been a photographer for more than thirty years. He became known for his photographs of his liquid sculptures. Since his sculptures are completely liquid, Jack uses photography as a means of capturing these suspended fluids. He shows attention to detail by by working light quality and form to really bring out the flash of vibrant spontaneousness in each of his works. Every photo of Jack's work is single capture due to this sculpture/photographer's disdain for sitting in front of a computer screen retouching photos.

Mid-air suspended liquid is Jack Long's theme throughout all of his pieces. The three pictures displayed here are from his Vessels and Blooms collection from early 2012. Coincidently, Jack also has another collection of liquid flowers. This fact might lead one to question the significance of these particular "flowers" being potted rather than free standing. One could take into consideration that maybe the viewer's idea of a liquid flower is better enhanced when seen potted and sometimes placed next to actual flora. Others might believe that the vessels show control over the instant and unpredictable paint explosions.
