Sarah McCollough Weekly Post #4

Alberto Korda (1928-2001) was a Cuban photographer. He began his career heavily involved in fashion photography, one of the first in Cuba to pursue that field. Korda befriended Cuban Revolution leader Castro, along with the other leaders of the Cuban Revolution. Korda traveled with them, photographing the leaders, scenes from the revolution. He chose to photograph things that demonstrated his and his compainion's ideals. Korda personally did not believe expensive equipment was necessary for achieving a great photograph. He has said: "Forget the camera, forget the lens, forget all of that. With any four-dollar camera, you can capture the best picture."
His most iconic piece is the portrait of Che Guevara. It had been circulated and seen millions of times and has become a pop cultural symbol for revolution and defiance.
