Imani Cannon: Weekly Post #5

Helen Levitt (August 31, 1913 - March 29, 2009)

Helen Levitt was born in Brooklyn, New York where she focused on photography. Most of her photographs focus on many children in the streets of New York. Unlike, many photographers, a lot of her work is based off of typical everyday life regarding children activities such as gossip and playing. Just the perspective that she focuses on regarding the New York street life is unique. Not only is Helen great with capturing everyday life she is great at capturing depths of color in her photographs. In a few photographs below, many of the colors she uses seems to be repeated throughout the photograph in many ways almost what seems naturally-in the right place at the right time. For Helen to catch these variations of color in everyday life gives insight on things that we may fail to notice around us. With the use of color she uses, it gives pieces of her artwork just the right touch to make the perfect photograph.  Her work is something I will also consider while working on our current assignment regarding light and color composition.
