Seth Lower

Seth Lower made these portraits of a few people in his project called The Sun Shone Glaringly. He looks as though he set up these subjects just right in a scene where the most sunlight would hit them to their faces. Also, in this project are a few other pictures of non-portraits where the sun hits certain places of buildings.

Lower had to have white balanced the pictures when he made them to accommodate the amount of light that was outside on the days he took each persons portrait. Since it looks as though each subject is posing, he also could be using a slow shutter speed which would let in more light for the photo.

Lowers idea of capturing the sun on each subject makes an interesting photo. It is a different approach to portraits than I believe some people are use to seeing. In most cases, the photographer tries to get the light into the background or just use it as lighting for the photo. But instead Lower is using it to shine on the subject's face on purpose.
