In the first picture Halpern the main focus of the portrait
is the girl. The way he places her so
the back is facing us. I really enjoy
the way the sun glimmers against her beautiful brown skin. He puts her in black to direct the attention
to her because the background is filled with greens, yellows, and light browns.
In the next shot he is also utilizing the sun and its
reflection as part of the focal point.
The direction of the sun as it hits the young man, the cars, the tree,
and the bottle is almost mesmerizing and makes you feel a sense of warmth. In the previous picture as well as this on I
notice that he waited for what seems like sunrise in order to take these
pictures. I don’t think that these
pictures what have felt the same freshness and newness if it was shot in pure
daylight or sunset.
