1. Ilana uses lights and darks to enhance the focus onto her subjects. She used a low ISO to get greater quality and detail in each subject. My guess is that she used a tripod and a flash feature when necessary, to prevent camera camera shake and to get the lighting she needs. She makes each photo by considering the actions of her subjects, the lighting surrounding them, and by balancing the overall contrast of the photo. By doing so, she makes the viewer's eye flow around the image and focus on more areas than the area she has in focus.
2. She intends to capture the daily lives of adolescents. These three images show the results of underage drinking, the idea of young love, and altered identity routine of makeup. Although focusing on the teen(s) in the photos, she uses the background to give greater emphasis on the situation the teen(s) are in. For example, the first image is of a guy throwing up. Without the background of the distant trees and possible houses, I would just think that he is throwing up from a sickness not from drinking. Although no proof of him drinking is provided, I know that most parties are in a open and secluded area because I can relate to the image.
3. I think she executed her goals very well. Although the whole series isn't displayed here, if you look at her website, all the photos relate to each other perfectly. It forces you to think more into the photo and try to read the what she is trying to convey. It took me a long time to read each photo. By doing so, I noticed the color and lighting contrast and the effects both had on the action of the teen(s).
