The artist shot
his images at handholding speed 1/60 of a second or faster especially to stop the motion of the guys in the first image that were building the skating ramp. I also notice in all photos the shallow
depth of field, which could be anything from f 4 or larger. Many of these photographs, though not all, were
shot it appears at the same time out day.
Rhodes started this project by visiting a
Do-it-yourself skate park that his friend invited him to. Through his photographs he was able to show
the community and its surrounding environments. He attempting and well executed displaying
just how diverse the group of people that made up this community was. By earning their trust and continually interacting with them he was able to photograph them and make several beautiful portraits.
I enjoyed
viewing these photographs. It was
especially inspiring seeing our recent portrait and landscape series of
photographs. To be able to photographs
such a different variety of people is nice however them all coming together for
the same cause makes for a different and interesting story. It goes from just photographs of people to a
thriving community that wants somewhere for their own to be able to regularly
skate and interact.
