Holli Turner - Weekly Artist Post

Ken Schles

I’m assuming by looking at many of these photographs that they were taken with a high ISO anything from 1600 on up.  Although well done, the images have a look of graininess and motion blur to them, which may or may not be intentional.  The artist aimed to shoot his environment just as he saw it and right in the moment.  As far as his technical choices in regards to the motion blur he possibly was attempting to handhold at anything below 1/60 of a second.

Ken Schles aimed to photograph his view of New York.  He wanted to show the chaos and calm the beauty and the destruction of the people and places in New York.  He wants to show the environment in which he had to grow up in so quickly and simply put what he was exposed to.

Despite the motion blur and graininess of many of the photos I enjoyed viewing them.  Both of those aspects gave a polluted atmosphere and a bit of texture to the photographs.  All of these photos tell an interesting story that can either be made up by the viewer or told simply by viewing the photo.
