What I like about Colin Gray's choices on his portraits are the focus on the subject. He doesn't use a busy background so there is nothing to distract the viewer from the subject. It also seems like he wants to make sure there is a lot of personality portrayed, maybe that's another reason there is nothing to distract from the subject. The viewer can really focus on and think about the expression of the person and their characteristics.
I love this landscape of Colin Gray's. It is not your typical city-scape. It looks like early morning, which is a rather quiet time in an other-wise busy setting. It's not very alive with lights either like you would normally see in a city landscape photograph. I like his simple choices.
