1. Nigel Shafran, is a photographer based in london. He was first known for his work in fashion photography but his more recent work focuses on day to day activities. Trying to capture objects and actions in our lives. The photographs are from his collection 'Dark Rooms'. These photos were shot on a Canon lxus, and he had said to use his shopping cart as his tripod.
2. Dark Rooms is a collection/ series of photographs that are meant to capture the cycle of our day to day activities. "Cycles: birth and death, acquiring and discarding, the banality of routine." Trying to show parts of our daily lives while they aren't being posed, having a more raw feelings to them. From the grocery store, to mail laying on the desk, to running into your reflection on a computer, going to work, he creates an image of a piece of our daily life when you least expect it to be important.
3. I believe that Shafran accurately portrays his theme of the daily cycle of life, although, the collection as a whole is easier to understand than just three photographs. His images really do capture a more raw side to our lives. I was compelled to view this body of work when I saw the groceries on the conveyor belt, they had a slightly uneasy feeling to it. The image of the reflection on the computer was probably the one which drew me in even more, it has an incredibly unsettling feeling to it. But once again shows that our reflection is something in our lives that we pass off so easily and don't care to recognize. All the photographs are parts of your day to day life, things that you almost forget you do, that we don't even think are that important to us, yet he still captures them in an unsettling manner, to show that we are always in a constant cycle of our lives.
