Sabine Mirlesse
Sabine Mirlesse creates a humanistic emphasis in her photography. Humanistic in terms of a majority of her work is with interesting and intriguing subjects. These pictures were in an album called Preventricular Arrythmia in which each picture involved a couple. Whether it was two women or two men, these images were made in such a way that there seems to be an underlying story. Other than people, Mirlesse also made pictures of nature and abandoned areas. One observation that I made was that unless it was outside lighting, most of her images had a darkness to them.
The tone of her works are raw and somewhat grungy. There is a theme of human interaction and connection even along with nature or their surroundings. The work does not portray beauty as in what looks nice but more of the imperfect and real. There is a sense of damage, abandonment, and isolation and the affect that has on its victim.
I like the idea of photography not always having to look beautiful. Art should send a message and make the viewer think as well as sometimes being beautiful. Even the strangest subject in the photograph can be beautiful. Her images make me ponder and study to figure out the journey that she went down to make the moment. Her work is an inspiration to artists who want to make an impact on the world through art.
